The “Working Band” is the main project of Matthias Petzold. Strong Grooves, exiting improvisations, and the melodic and harmonic richness of Petzold´s compositions are the main elements of the band concept. The music reaches the audience immediately, without foregoing the expressive and subtile qualities of Jazz.
The compositions cover a wide range of differing moods and connect elements of various styles to a totally individual sound. Petzold is able to use his broad experiences as a composer and bandleader in a lot of different settings.
The members of the band have longstanding playing experiences in different countries, with own projects and in the bands of well known Jazz musicians. Their musical talents are documented on a big number of broadcasting and CD recordings.
On some occasion, the band is featuring soul- and jazz-singer Ariane Baumgärtner. The mixture of originals and standards is arranged for her expressive voive and the interplay with the band. She adds a flavour of pop concert to the performances of the “Working Band”.
The Band has recorded a CD in 2002, “Elements” (Indigo-Records 1005 CD). Here are some Soundfiles:

Reviews:
“Matthias Petzold has become a magnet for friends of challenging music and fine compositions. After all seats were occupied, the audience had to get closer together... And he held his promise. The six-piece band played a music, that went immediately both to feet without missing the head... “ (Kölnische Rundschau)
“A music that overcomes borders - “working Band” with a virtuose performance” ... The audience heard a music, that fit in none of the common jazz styles... Ptzold´s concept, to create a synthesis of world music that is also entertaining may threaten jazz purists. But for an open-minded audience it breaks the border between serious music and entertaininment.” (Kölner Stadtanzeiger)
