Matthias Petzold Quartett
Matthias Petzold (ts, ss, cello); Jürgen Friedrich (p); Nils Imhorst (b)
Roland Höppner (dr)

Of course, Matthias Petzold is still featuring his acoustic music. Besides the solo- and duo performances, that he does with different partners, the quartet is his most important band in this kind of music.

The Matthias Petzold Quartet exists since 1998. In this band Petzold focuses on clear and intense compositions and the interplay and improvisations of the band. The distinct and individual tenor style of Petzold and the use of soprano sax and cello as doubling instruments create a warm and colourful sound. Influenced by contemporary Mainstream Jazz, the music is sometimes soft, sometimes hard-grooving, but always full of expression.

Reviews:

“The art of ballad playing was showed extensive and masterly... and combined with explosive outbreaks and sound collages. The clear structure and expressive power of the compositions was fascinating.”
(“Der Neue Tag”/Weiden)
